
Tyler Thomas is a director and theater maker, currently based in NYC. Tyler has developed and staged new work with The Vineyard Theatre, Pasadena Playhouse, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Rattlestick Playwrights, Geva Theatre, Playwrights Center, Northern Stage, New Ohio Theatre, HERE Arts Center, The Flea, and Lincoln Center Education. She is a Susan Stroman Directing Award recipient with the Vineyard Theatre (2020) and a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists Award recipient (2025). She is also a former 2050 Fellow with New York Theater Workshop, Foeller Fellow at Williamstown Theatre Festival, member of the Lincoln Center Directors’ Lab, BOLD Resident Director at Northern Stage, and has been a Visiting Artist at the Athens Conservatoire in Greece, and Guest Artist at UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, and NYU Tisch. She is currently co-directing We Shall Someday, a new musical amplifying the history and legacy of the 1961 Freedom Riders. Beginning in Montgomery at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, the project will travel along the Freedom Riders route, partnering with local heritage and cultural organizations to engage community in the ongoing work for civil rights.
Tyler also serves as the Associate Artistic Director for the national arts and health initiative, Arts for EveryBody, supporting 18 communities across the country as they work to create 18 distinct public art projects designed to improve community health. She holds a BFA in Drama and MA in Arts Politics from the Tisch School of the Arts.
